Counselling can be a useful way of exploring your feelings and emotions safely and with the help of someone who is trained to help you move through difficult or uncomfortable feelings without judgement and with empathy. You may find that through addressing your experiences you are able to move forwards positively and with a greater understanding of yourself and your patterns/process.
My name is Katie Ellis and I offer counselling services in West Yorkshire. I have specialist knowledge of working with children and young people. The service covers talking therapy for adults and children and young people, psychoeducation for those who have experienced trauma and sessions for parents and their children to improve understanding and communication within their relationship.
I have experience of providing emotional support to both men and women, and young people aged 5-25, helping to improve their mental health and well-being. I have experience of working with issues surrounding self-esteem, confidence, anxiety, depression and trauma. Having previously worked in the voluntary sector with The Samaritans, ex-offenders and their families, and those affected by domestic violence, I also have experience of supporting those who experience suicidal thoughts and those who are struggling within their relationships.
I adopt a Person-Centred approach and strongly believe that we are all capable of growth and change. During sessions, I feel I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space for clients to discuss whatever they feel they need to. I aim to support clients to work through their feelings and struggles, whilst enabling them to remain in control. I also offer psychoeducation for those who have experienced trauma, enabling clients to gain a better understanding of their reactions and behaviours and teaching strategies to support them in their everyday lives.
I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to their code of ethics. I also have enhanced criminal records bureau disclosures and hold a full level of insurance to cover my work.
Traumatic events can lead to us developing panic attacks and other physiological responses. By providing psychoeducation sessions, I aim to help clients gain a better understanding of their responses and support them with coping strategies to move forward.
Having a safe place to share our thoughts and feelings can lead to positive change and growth. I can help you to explore difficult situations, work through unwanted thoughts and develop more positive behaviours.
"I felt like I was listened to without judgement. It felt really good to be able to get things off my chest."
"Katie helped me to see things differently. Talking has really helped."
"I had never had counselling before so didn't really know what to expect. Katie was calm and put me at ease."
"Just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for your time and patience in understanding me and listening to me. It can be daunting talking to a stranger about such personal things, however you instantly made me feel safe and secure and like I was talking to a friend. I'll be forever greatful for all your help. Thank you xx."
"I find Katie very caring! She is not just doing a job;she cares about her clients. I don't feel forced to talk about anything that I wasn't ready to talk about; however, she made me feel so comfortable that I did open up about many things that I have found hard to talk about in the past."
